MESSAGE TO ALL CLASSES MONDAY, JULY 16, 2007

Dear students:

I shall be out of state for this week. You guest teacher will be Mr. Rolland. Please cooperate with him and do the assignmets.

Periods 1 and 3, Senior Composition:

1. I have read and corrected you first essays. If time permits, I will bring them to school for your rewrites in the Library on Wednesday. If I can't get them back to you by Wednesday, You will input your second essay on Word. This second essay was assigned last Friday and is an essay to accompany you application to a college or university. You should have the rough drafts in hand when you report to the Library on Wednesday. Remember: Do not go to the classroom on Wednesday--that wastes time. We have not yet been given our Vantage schedule.

2. As I indicated in Number 1, I have corrected your essays. I have found serious problems with grammar, syntax, word choice, spelling, and punctuation. Owing to this, you will be assigned grammar lessons in Writer's ChoiceThe guest teach will make these assignments with my help.

3. Now that all the Williams textbooks have been issued, you should receive your Senior Project pamphlet today. I am sorry about this delay, but the books for the core curriculum classes had to be issued first because of our API status.

Period 2, Honors English 11 using the AP curriculum:

1. Owing to my testing system, the figure of speech test will be held in abayance.

2. Vocabulary testing may continue at the option of Mr. Rolland.

3. The Beford Reader is in the back cabinet. I will try to secure a key for Mr. Rolland.

4. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finnshould be delivered to you today. As you read, I suggest you make notes (not in the book) summerizing what you have read, asking questions, predicting what may happen next, copying out figures of speech and rhetorical devices you discover in the text. Remember: Mark Twain (Samuel Taylor Clemens) may be read on many levels. It is not just an amusing story for children. Twain is arguably our greatest writer.

Periods 5 and 6, American Lit/Comp:

1. Students will finishwork on the two selected poems of Maya Angelou.

2. Students will prepare the rough draft on their essays on how Maya Angelou's works developed from her history and personality. This essay will be typed in the Library on Wednesday.
