I HOPE ALL OF YOU ARE ENJOYING YOU TWO MONTHS OFF FROM SCHOOL. ALL OF YOU SHOULD BE READING, READING, READING.
Periods 1 and 3, Senior Composition/Senior Project:
1. Please find a mentor. If you have not found one yet, the Library Web Cite has a link for you.
2. Please complete your 20 hours service under the supervision of your mentor.
3. To those of you attending the LACC speech class: THANKS.
4. To those of you not attending the speech class, please practice in front of anyone who will listen. Practice in front of a mirror. Time you speeches. Remember eye contact, posture, hands, projecting your voice, enthusiasm, and be sure you look like you KNOW what you are talking about.
5. If you have problems, you have my email number.
6. As I told you before the break, you may send your rough drafts of you final 8 to 12 page essays to me. Remember to use Spell Check and Grammar Check. I will correct them and answer your emails.
Period 2, Honors 11Th English using the AP Curriculum:
1. "Homeless" by Anna Quindlen is available on line. This information comes to you through the courtesy of your classmate, GG. The Blog will not let me list the Web Cite.
2. You will write an in-class essay on "Silent Dancing" a few days after our return.
3. There will be an in-class essay on "Homeless," as well.
4. You will do the Rogerian essay we settled on before the break: The three novels should be banned owing to language--Banning the novels would not only keep serious literature out of every one's hands, it would violate free speech. The compromise might then be: The novels should be kept out of the hands of children in elementary and middle schools.
Periods 5 and 6, American Literature/Composition:
1. Now that you have seen your grades, I hope you will take the class more seriously.
2. You will work on essay writing based on the pacing plan upon our return.
3. The figures of speech you studied before the break must be learned. You can find them on line.
4. I expect you to be doing independent reading during the break. Look at previous Blogs for suggestions.
