TENTH GRADE ENGLISH:

STUDENTS WILL VIEW SELECTIONS FROM THE AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF MALCOLM X TO REINFORCE THE READING FROM THE TEXT.

1. CONTINUED READING AND EXEGESIS OF "IT CAN'T BE HELPED" FROM FAREWELL TO MANZANAR, PAGE 357, COLUMN 2.

2. STUDENTS WILL READ AND DISCUSS "MEET THE WRITERS" ON PAGE 359.

3. READING AND EXEGESIS OF "NISEI DAUGHTER: THE SECOND GENERATION," PAGE 360

4. STUDENTS WILL WRITE THE ANSWERS TO EXERCISES 1 THROUGH 6 ON PAGE 362 IN COMPLETE SENTENCES.

5. STUDENTS WILL ANNOTATE "MAKE THE CONNECTION," "ELEMENTS OF LITERATURE," AND THE SHADED RECTANGLE ON OMNISCIENT POINT OF VIEW ON PAGE 276.

6. STUDENTS WILL USE THE ANNOTATIONS TO CREATE THE "SAY/MEAN/MATTER" EXERCISE.

7. STUDENTS WILL CONVERT THE INFORMATION IN THE "SAY/MEAN/MATTER" EXERCISE INTO CORNELL NOTES.


ELEVENTH GRADE ENGLISH:


1. BASED ON YESTERDAY'S DISCUSSION AND THE INFORMATION ON PAGE 30, STUDENTS WILL WRITE A FIVE PARAGRAPH ESSAY ON THE STYLE OF "OF PLYMOUTH PLANTATION." THE DISCUSSION LED TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE STYLE WAS FORMAL. IN YOUR ESSAY USE EXAMPLES OF VOCABULARY, SENTENCE STRUCTURE, IDIOMATIC EXPRESSIONS, ALLUSIONS, AND IMAGERY TO SHOW HOW THE AUTHOR ACHIEVED THIS FORMAL STYLE. REMEMBER: INTRODUCTION, THREE BODY PARAGRAPHS GIVING YOUR EXAMPLES, AND A CONCLUSION THAT RESTATES YOUR THESIS STATEMENT.
